SCHOOL & LIBRARY PROGRAM

"Town Teddy & Country Bear"
A Classic Aesop’s Fable Retold"

Pack your bags and travel to the Big Apple and the Wyoming Wilderness with author and illustrator Kathleen Bart as she retells the classic Aesop’s fable "Town Mouse Country Mouse" with a enchanting teddy bear twist!

Manhattan resident Tuxedo Teddy is utterly overwhelmed by his busy city life. Wyoming homesteader Bandanna Bear is bored stiff by his quiet life in the country. Envious of each other’s lives, they decide to swap places! Kathleen presents their adventures in The Big Apple and The Wyoming Wilderness with colorful poster-sized illustrations and a charming narrative. The bears' zany jaunts in the town and country offer a lively and humorous comparison of rural and urban lifestyles. Perhaps the grass in NOT always greener on the other side of the fence! True to the format of a fable, a valuable lesson is learned by story’s end.  Children are invited to "read between the lines" to discover the secret message hidden in this modern re-telling of a timeless fable!

Kathleen concludes the program by teaching children how to draw their own teddy bears and encourages them to write their own fables!

This interactive 45 minute program is personalized for students grades K-4.
